Condition of the Foreclosed Properties is Woeful
October 19th, 2009

The US economy is on a tailspin what with unemployment reigning high. People are faltering on mortgage payments too. Hence, foreclosures are at an all-time high. What’s more, the condition of the foreclosed properties is very bad.
Companies in charge of removing junk have many sad stories to tell. The homes that have been abandoned by their owners are in various stages of disrepair. They provide a series of archaeological clues that these foreclosed properties had once been occupied by people.
One cleaner, Steve Turner, says that he found the report cards of children still pasted to the fridge. Turner says that the report card belonged to a young girl in an elementary school. She seemed a bright student because there were A’s and B’s. It is very sad that the family did not even have the time to take it before leaving the house.
The worst to be hit by the ongoing recession are the elderly. Take for instance, Helen Hewitt. She owes $800 per month on her home in Des Moines. Her credit card dues total $1,000 and while her electric bill dues amount to $500. The bank has filed a foreclosure against her house. For 72-year old Hewitt, life is a struggle. Her health condition is worsening and she feels that God is being cruel. He has taken away everything from her.
It’s very sad that senior citizens like her sometimes have to forego medication so that they can afford housing and food. However, decaying health and crumbling houses are pushing these people out of homes they desperately want to stay in.
In Detroit, unemployment support programs are organized by a church. There’s a group of youngsters who have fallen on hard times but they are determined to wrench themselves out of the stupor. They are determined to get jobs. Sixty four year old Tom Murray was a computer programmer. He was laid off in March this year. He is looking for a job. Then there is 54-year old James Lakatos who lost his job in the company that he worked for 30 years. He is making a few adjustments and he knows that it is better to project a positive outlook.
In West Michigan, many people lost their homes in flood. Now a NGO Holland Flood Relief Task Force is helping people to rebuild their homes. After all, winter is on the horizons and people need to protect themselves.
