As Foreclosures Abound, the Rescue Plan Has Come As a Boon to Many

June 11th, 2009

The American economy is going through its toughest phase. As job loss mounts, people are defaulting on the mortgage payments of their homes. Subsequently, foreclosed properties are becoming common and homes are being sold off at auctions. The going has indeed become tough for not only subprime but prime borrowers as well. The rescue plan formulated by President Barack Obama will be a boon for the homeowners. The following instance would reveal.

Staci Gullett a 28-year old worker at the state unemployment office says that she is really perturbed at the relentless phone calls that she receives from the jobless. She says that people cry over the telephone asking her to release the benefits that they are entitled to.

Gullett also says that the grant which has been given by the government to ease the sufferings of the people have really come in handy. This grant will be pumped into the housing industry and is expected to ease the sufferings of the distressed homeowners. Gullett will be the first person in Broward to receive the grant for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. She is very happy to buy a two bedroom flat in Tamarac with the money. The house that she has bought will cost around $133,000 and she is receiving a grant of $91,300. It’s really wonderful to have your own space, says Gullett. She is a single mother and earns a salary in the ‘20s’ that qualifies her for the program’s income guidelines.

The rescue plan formulated by President Obama is expected to help many first-time buyers like Gullett and also owners with foreclosure homes .

In Palm Beach and Broward counties, the local governments have been given $104 million to redo foreclosed properties so that they become fit for occupation by those who can afford it. Tamarac County has received $4.7 million which it will dole out in neighborhoods like Westwood, Mainlands, Vanguard Village and Concord Village and Heathgate-Sunflower.

Jennifer Bramley, director of community development, says Tamarac has received 80 applications under the rescue plan. The first three deals will close very soon thereby making Tamarac the first city to utilize the rescue plan money. Credit analyst David Cabrejo also wants to buy a home in Tamarac but he is afraid because his company has announced layoffs.  According to the rescue plan, Cabrejo is entitled to get $54,000 for the $138,000 house. For people like Gullett and Cabrejo, the rescue plan is indeed a blessing.
