Individuals Wait with Bated Breath the End of the Foreclosure Saga

June 19th, 2009

With rumours pouring in of having sighted the first swallow bringing good tidings, the individuals wait with bated breath the end of the foreclosure saga and a turn in the economy.

Some of the worst victims of the times have been mortgage brokers in Phoenix. One of them had been operating in this region for 15 years. Since 2000 Colt Phipps has worked for four companies – they either downed shutters or dispensed with their staff.

In the last month of 2007 the bank started foreclosures proceedings against his house and he had no choice but move in with his parents five miles distant. He and his fiancé Brandi have been living with them for nearly a year and a half. His mother had been most accommodating when they asked her permission to move in. His father had gone off to another place with a job and would be away for two years. Even then Phipp’s house was a sprawling 5,000’ while his parents were a modest 1,100. Things did get a bit crowded with Phipps, his fiancé and two dogs.

Due to technicalities Phipps was not eligible of unemployment benefits but he had health coverage through a state plan. He has been patient and trying to get a job but so far nothing has worked out. It is a tiresome chore checking on the net, applying and then waiting for a response that never comes. His consolation is in knowing that many others like him are in the same boat. Life is a strict routine with taking the dogs out for walks and limiting socializing as money is tight. Even golf has become out of bounds. It is like leading the life of a monk.

Phipps pitches in with the housework – the laundry and trimming the lawn. His mother has a part time job in the local Bible School library. Brandi too managed a job. Previously she had been a mortgage loan processor but lost her job in 2007.

Phipps weighs the possibilities of accepting $10 per hour assignment but then decides against it as this would have taken up much of his time preventing him from hunting for better jobs.

He had tried switching over to new fields of work – took training for postal work but it did not turn out well. On the last day he hit a parking cone and was fired then and there. To try again he would have to wait another year and do the written test all over again. A job in an insurance company did not materialize either. Things are far from encouraging.
